NextGen offers paid internship opportunities for immersive summer experiences in STEM fields. Particular emphasis is placed on choosing interns from groups that have been historically underrepresented in STEM undergraduate education.
*Program dates may vary slightly due to housing availability.
NextGen offers opportunities for immersive, financially supported, summer experiences in STEM fields in STEM-focused organizations.
Summer interns earn $7,200 for a summer internship experience in a STEM field. Students work in-person for 40 hours/week with a dedicated U.S. Government contractor or directly with a U.S. Government Agency as part of a robust, fully mentored, internship program.
Internship length is abbreviated in Grand Junction, CO due to university housing availability.
All internships are established collaborations between NextGen and organizational partners working in STEM areas, either as U.S. Government agencies or as U.S. Government contractors. Interns receive meaningful, hands-on experience in a STEM field and personalized mentorship from on-site supervisors.
NextGen provides necessity grants to meet individual student needs and eradicate their personal barriers to participation in the internship experience. Students may request funds to cover such costs as transportation, housing, groceries, internship-required equipment and/or supplies, childcare, etc.
Summer internship applications are considered only from students studying at accredited, US-based colleges and universities that have an established relationship with NextGen.
Applicants must complete sophomore or junior year before the internship start date, and provide evidence of good academic standing and full-time enrollment in a STEM undergraduate major.
NextGen interns agree to participate in all internship activities and requirements, meet with the onsite mentor, and commit to helping recruit and mentor future NextGen interns.
NextGen recognizes a student's need for continuing support throughout the summer. Interns may request necessity funds as critical needs arise.
Interns will have access to the NextGen support team and corporate mentors throughout the summer internship period.
Students may reapply for a second summer internship if given a successful evaluation upon completion of the first internship and continued academic eligibility.
