Position withdrawn due to the President's Exec Order

About DOE WIPP

  • The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Carlsbad Field Office (CBFO) is looking for hardworking undergraduate students interested in addressing the nation's challenges in energy, environmental and nuclear sciences and security. The Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) was constructed for disposal of defense-generated transuranic (TRU) waste from DOE sites around the country.  TRU waste consists of clothing, tools, rags, residues, debris, soil and other items contaminated with small amounts of plutonium and other man-made radioactive elements.  The waste is permanently disposed of in rooms mined in an underground salt bed layer over 2000 feet from the surface.  WIPP has been d disposing of legacy TRU waste since 1999, cleaning up 22 generator sites nationwide and has safely disposed of more than 185,000 waste containers.  It now  needs a new generation of young professionals whose dedication and creativity will make the U.S.  Government stronger, more productive and more efficient.  Learn more about DOE WIPP at: https://www.wipp.energy.gov/
